The successful candidates are expected to have broad knowledge in either areas of 2D/3D image and video compression & transmission or spatial audio coding & transmission (most preferably a PhD degree in one of those areas/ sub-areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering). A good knowledge of general aspects of signal processing is a major plus. Successful candidates are also expected to have good programming practice (especially in C/C++ and Matlab). The successful candidate will be required to help in developing software modules (e.g. codecs) as well as analysis tools to be used in the integration activities of several research projects. Willingness to conduct research and advancing the state-of-the-art in their area is a significant criterion in assessing the successful candidates. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.


The candidate will be located in the I-Lab, University of Surrey, to work on a joint European FP7 project. I-Lab Multimedia Communication Systems Research offers a complete solution to applications and services for current and future fixed and mobile communication systems by incorporating user aspects into technological research and development. I-Lab's user-centric research and development approach is the key to future telecommunication applications and services. I-Lab's goal is to bring communications and media technologies together in order to improve our daily lives.
