According to the terms and conditions of the "Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação" of the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), the IT - Pólo de Coimbra announces two research grant positions, in the scope of the research project funded by the Portuguese IT- Instituto de Telecomunicações, entitled "NOISYRIS: Synthesis of Noisy Iris Images for Biometric Recognition Purposes".
The main goal of these research positions is the development of an automated system to generate synthetic periocular images, simulating the acquisition at visible wavelengths and uncontrolled acquisition conditions, namely varying types, number and position of illuminants in the scene, acquisition distances, perspectives and poses, and types of occlusions (hair, eyelash, eyelid, glasses).
These research grants can be applied by Graduated or Masters of Science of the Informatics domain of knowledge, preferably with previous experience in the Pattern Recognition or Computer Graphics areas. Solid programming skills in C++ and MATLAB® languages are a requirement. Also, good proficiency in English is important, as well the commitment to research.
Salary: 745 € (Graduated) or 980 € (Masters of Science);
· The research grant contract will begin on November 2011, 1st and will last for 12 months;
· Local: "SOCIA- Soft Computing and Image Analysis" laboratory, in the "bloco 6" of the Universidade da Beira Interior (Covilhã, Portugal);
· Selection criteria: Average marks of B.Sc./B.Eng (50%) + Curricular evaluation according to project goals (50%).
· Members of the jury: Doctor Hugo Pedro Martins Carriço Proença (president), Doctor Luís Filipe Barbosa de Almeida Alexandre and Doctor Frutuoso Gomes M. Silva.
· The scientific supervision of this work will be made by Doctors Hugo Pedro Martins Carriço Proença and Frutuoso Gomes M. Silva.
