Job Vacancy: Software Engineer and Face Recognition Researcher
- Company Background -
Aurora is the UK leader in the provision of face recognition technology, originally established in 1998. Our solutions have been delivered to over 1000 sites both in the UK and Middle East, logging over 15 million transactions a year. We supply the UK Police, Education Sector, Construction, Government and Air Industry with access control, identity management and time and attendance solutions.
At the heart of Aurora's portfolio is our face recognition technology, developed in-house by the Core Technology Team, led by Dr Tom Heseltine. Over the years, this Core Technology has developed into a world leading infrared face recognition system, incorporating face detection, image quality analysis, verification and identification. We pride ourselves in our ability to take theory and innovation and apply it to challenging problems in the real world.
- Job Description -
Aurora is now recruiting new members into the Core Technology Team, to help in the expansion of our recognition capabilities for new areas of application. We are looking for intelligent, enthusiastic software engineers and computer scientists, probably with a PhD and background in machine vision and image processing. Strong software engineering ability is vital to take academic theory through to a practical working system.
Successful applicants will join the team in research and development of new and innovative face detection, eye detection and face recognition algorithms. Some prior knowledge of image recognition techniques, such as PCA, LDA, Adaptive Boosting or Bayesian methods is expected. Applicants should be comfortable reading and understanding research papers and implementing algorithms in languages such as C++ (as well as some C and C# in .NET). Direct experience with face recognition systems is desirable, but not essential and experience of both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) platforms would be highly beneficial.
We are a small company that provides specialist face recognition technology to large organisations and system integrators. As part of the Core Technology Team, your new innovations will be swiftly put to use, solving challenging problems for high profile customers. Current projects involve infrared face scanning for the world's busiest airport, passport checking for automated immigration, cloud-based time and attendance monitoring for some of the UK's largest construction companies and enhancing robustness to pose and lighting variations when searching large image databases.
Members of the Core Technology Team are provided with the equipment necessary to work from home, travelling into the main office (near Northampton, UK) typically once a week. Standard working hours are 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, although our researchers regularly exceed such hours. The employment package includes health insurance and pension contributions (following a probationary period) and a salary dependent on the applicant's experience.
