[Imageworld] Postdoctoral Positions, Breast Image Analysis - Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania

Postdoctoral Positions

Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG)
Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania

The Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) of the Radiology Department at the University of Pennsylvania is recruiting for postdoctoral researcher positions. The position will be part of a new NIH-funded center, the Penn Center for Innovation in Personalized Breast Cancer Screening (PCIPS), with a goal to improve breast cancer screening outcomes by developing and evaluating the tools needed to implement personalized screening strategies.  Personalized breast cancer screening uses individual patient characteristics to develop recommendations for which breast imaging modalities should be used, when screening should occur, and how abnormal screening studies should be managed.

Project:

The position involves developing methods to analyze breast density and parenchymal tissue patterns from Digital Mammography (DM) and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) and estimating their predictive value to determine a woman’s risk of breast cancer and breast cancer screening outcomes. The position will be initially for one year and continuation during that period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and funding availability. Funding for this position is secured for five years.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, with a background on biomedical image analysis, feature extraction, segmentation, shape statistics, and machine learning. Competence in programming methods (Matlab, C/C++, and LINUX scripting) and quantitative analytical methods is essential. Good knowledge of biostatistics and previous experience in breast imaging is a plus. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Responsibilities will include designing and implementing experiments, data collection and analysis, and writing and presenting results.

The Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) is a research group of the Breast Imaging Division of the Radiology department with a mission to act as a translational catalyst between computational imaging science and clinical breast cancer research. CBIG collaborates with the Abramson Cancer Center, the Institute for the Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, and the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Successful applicants will join a vibrant collaborative research environment, will work closely with clinical investigators and gain a first-hand experience of our clinical breast imaging program.
